5/23/19 Shelter In Place Update

Dear Stapleton community,

This morning we had a Shelter in Place happen at Stapleton, and a few other schools in the area.  For those that haven’t heard and for an update to our community, there was a report of a man with a rifle near the McAuliffe Charter School this morning. Framingham Police have the gun and the suspect in custody.  At no point were students in danger or was the suspect near Stapleton.  We understand how alarming this news can be to read, but again, your children are safe.

A "shelter in place" is exactly that- students and staff remain in the classroom for a brief amount of time.  Since emergency crews can only access the building from certain entry ways, we prevent students and staff from being in the hallways witnessing any emergency crew responses, to ensure privacy and keep everyone calm.  During these procedures, students remain in their classrooms and staff continue teaching.

If you have any further questions, please don’t hesitate to contact administration.

Thank you for your continued support!

Sincerely,

Anne Diaz, Principal adiaz@framingham.k12.ma.us

Our Snowy Day

We finally had some Snowy Days in Kindergarten! Students listened to The Snowy Day written by Ezra Jack Keats. We talked about all of Peter’s snow adventures and decided what kind of adventure we wanted to create on our own. Each picture contained a character, Peter, and a snowy setting. Students wrote a story to accompany the beautiful creations.

Independent Readers

We are readers! We have been learning many different reading superpowers to help us grow. Readers point below words, hunt for snap words, think about what they read and the best readers reread to learn! Here are some pictures of students working hard :)

Kindergarten Kindness

Today was a very special day in Kindergarten. We celebrated kindness across the grade level. Students worked on a variety of activities to show their understanding of kindness. Together, we created a kindness chart, completed color by number kindness pictures, colored and cut a kindness Bee and illustrated a kindness picture. I am so proud of all of the Kindergarteners for completing so many acts of kindness today!

Literacy centers

Today we talked about community helpers working to earn money. Students decided what things they would need to buy instead of what they may want to buy. In our classroom, we will be earning coins for our hard work and expected choices. We can’t wait to earn enough money to buy a party!!
