n & m

During literacy centers this week, Kindergarteners have been printing letters n & m, generating words that begin with those letters, and manipulating magnets on our Fundations boards.

We also started our Community Helpers unit this week. Students learned a new shared reading and read individual books about many community helpers. We have been very busy!

Homework

Happy Friday!  Students had an amazing 5 day week!  In phonics, we have been practicing the names of 3 lowercase letters, t,b, & f.  We have been practicing printing them appropriately and saying the most commonly associated sound of each letter.

We started homework! Kindergarteners have been so responsible we are excited to start our new responsibility.  Homework is optional.  Students who complete homework and return it to school receive a sticker.  He/She chooses whether to wear the sticker or put it on the completed homework page.

Today we are sending home the letter f fundations page for homework.

The directions are:

1) Write your name at the top

2) Trace the black letter

3)  Make 2 of your own to the left and right of the black letter

4) Color the picture using your best coloring.

5) Think of 3 things that start with the sound and draw pictures of them.

Each letter page will have the same 5 directions. Have fun!

Letter T

Today we learned about letter t. We talked about upper case and lower case t, the picture/keyword "top" that the Fundations program pairs with the letter, and the sound t makes. Students worked in partners to print lower case t while saying "sky line down to grass line. Pick up! Cross on the plane line." We always start our letters at the top :)

Math Stations

Today we had three different math rotations.  Kindergarteners are learning to use the vocabulary "same, exactly the same," and "different."  Each student practiced building complex sentences to compare and contrast Cuisinaire Rods and Linking Shapes in the first two rotations.

Students used our Mimio in the last math rotation.  We drew lines to connect pictures that were similar and used our words to describe what was the same and what was different about each picture.  When we finished, students used the  Mimio to practice writing their name!

Fundations

Today we introduced our phonics program, Fundations.  Kindergarteners learned lots of new skills already! Our friend Echo the Owl helps us repeat after the teacher. Lines on our papers have pictures to help us remember where to begin and end our letters.  Here we are practicing the Sky Line, Plane Line, Grass Line, Worm Line game!

We practiced Kindergarten pencil grip with partners and used dry erase markers to draw straight lines from each line on the paper. Ask your Kindergartener what noise a marker makes to know when it's closed :)
